The film, titled Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace, was initially announced as Battle of Galwan. It draws inspiration from the June 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh.
Salman Khan plays Colonel Bikkumalla Santosh Babu, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment who led Indian soldiers during the confrontation. He received the Maha Vir Chakra posthumously for his bravery.
Chitrangda Singh plays the female lead, while the supporting cast includes Mukesh Rishi, Ankur Bhatia, Zeyn Shaw and Abhilash Chaudhary. Apoorva Lakhia directs the film.
Speaking about the repeated delays, Salman explained that the team wanted to improve the film’s visual effects before its theatrical release.
He said the makers wanted the visuals to impress audiences and avoid criticism from viewers who closely examine VFX in films. He also mentioned that an injury suffered by his co-star Chitrangda Singh affected the production schedule.
With December 4 now confirmed, Maatrubhumi is preparing for its theatrical debut after months of uncertainty. The film is among Salman’s major upcoming projects and will bring the actor back to the big screen in a military-themed story.
