Akshay Kumar Breaks His Hero Image With Haiwaan

Akshay Kumar is leaving his traditional Bollywood hero image behind with Haiwaan. The actor takes on a dark and negative character in Priyadarshan’s upcoming thriller. He will face Saif Ali Khan, who plays the film’s hero.

Akshay recently explained why he chose the unusual role. “I’m not trying to protect the image of the hero anymore,” he said.

The actor wants to explore characters that challenge audience expectations. His decision also shows his willingness to move beyond the heroic roles that have defined much of his career.

Akshay plays an unapologetically evil character in Haiwaan. He creates trouble for Saif’s character throughout the story.

Akshay previously described their dynamic, saying, “Saif Ali Khan is the hero, I create trouble for him.”

Haiwaan brings Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan back together after 18 years. Priyadarshan directs the thriller, which adapts his 2016 Malayalam film Oppam.

Saif plays Shyam, a visually impaired man who finds himself caught in a dangerous situation. Priyadarshan has said he wanted Saif to create his own interpretation of the character rather than imitate Mohanlal’s performance from the original film.

The film also marks Priyadarshan’s return to serious thriller territory after several popular Hindi comedies. Haiwaan will reach cinemas on September 11, 2026.

For Kumar, the film offers a chance to challenge his established image and show audiences a darker side of his acting. His decision to embrace the villain role could give fans a different perspective on one of Bollywood’s most familiar leading men.
