According to data from the state government, production houses from various parts of the country now prefer the capital city for shooting films, web series, TV serials, commercials, and documentaries.
Despite the potential logistical challenges, Chandni Chowk in Old Delhi has been a popular location for film shoots due to its vibrant ambience, historical charm, raw aesthetic, architectural beauty, and other aspects.
With the aim of promoting the city as a hub for movie production through various measures, the Aam Admi Party (AAP) government launched the ‘Delhi Film Policy’ in May 2022. The policy includes the establishment of a Rs 30 crore fund to support producers, hosting an international film festival every year, and ensuring online clearance for shooting within 15 days.
Under the film policy, which is being implemented by the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC), the government has also provisioned a subsidy of up to Rs 3 crore with certain conditions, such as the number of shooting days, location, branding of Delhi in the movie, and local hiring of actors, among other factors.
