RRR continues to create new records and milestones. Importantly, it has also successfully won the hearts of millions of movie fans internationally. After SS Rajamouli won the best director award at the New York Film Critics Circle recently, now, the good news is that this Ram Charan and Jr. NTR-led movie has gained 5 nominations at the prestigious Golden Globes Awards this year.
However, this is not the first time that an Indian movie has received such a nomination. Here are 5 such movies which were nominated in various categories at the Golden Globes earlier:

Do Ankhen Barah Haath
Released in 1957 and directed by the legendary director V. Shantaram, Do Ankhen Barah Haath starring Sandhya and V. Shantaram in the lead was the first Indian movie to receive a nomination at the Golden Globes Awards. The film is based upon an experiment by a warden of a jail who believes that if treated well the criminals can also turn into good citizens. During the process of rehabilitation, the warden gets killed but his experiment proves his beliefs.
Do Ankhen Barah Haath was nominated for the category of Samuel Goldwyn International Film Award.
Apur Sansar
The movie was nominated at the Golden Globes Awards in 1961. Directed by India’s most famous director Satyajit Ray, the movie is a story of an orphan who is keen on carving a career as a writer despite his struggles. It was nominated in the Best Motion Picture- Foreign Language category.
Gandhi
The movie was a collaboration between Indian and foreign actors in which Richard Attenborough played the lead role of Mahatma Gandhi and also directed the film. Importantly, the movie was not only nominated in different categories but also won 5 awards at the Golden Globes that year in Best Foreign Film, Best Director- Motion Picture, Best Actor in a Motion Picture-Drama, New Star of the Year-Actor and Best Screenplay- Motion Picture categories.
Salaam Bombay!
This Mira Nair-helmed movie was based on the spirit of Bombay and revolves around the life of a young boy Krishna who damages the motorbike of his brother. Instead of giving him the money to repair the bike, his mother asks Krishna to earn Rs 500 needed for repairing the bike. It starts the journey of the young boy in an altogether world. Salaam Bombay was nominated for Best Picture in the Non-English Language category.
Monsoon Wedding
This is another movie directed by Mira Nair which received a nomination in the Best Motion Picture- Foreign Language category. Monsoon Wedding had a stellar star cast including Shefali Shah, Lillete Dubey, and Naseeruddin Shah, and discussed the complications and romantic relationships in the traditional Indian wedding setup.
