Hyderabad police have beefed up security ahead of Munawar Farooqui’s show in the city. As we read before, BJP MLA T Raja Singh had said that he would beat Munawar Farooqui black and blue if he set foot in the city. He said the protesters would set the place on fire. Fearing a breach of law and order, the cops have put T Raja Singh under house arrest. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Goshamahal) Satish Kumar said, “Since he was planning to go to the place and create violence, we detained him.” The news was welcomed by his fans.
Last year, Munawar Faruqui and Kunal Kamra were to perform a concert in Hyderabad. But the show was cancelled. Members of the ruling party alleged that he was disrespectful to the Hindu majority. Organizers said it was canceled due to the pandemic.
Raja Singh had said in a video, “Wherever the program is, we will go and defeat it [Faruqui] up. Whoever offers him a place, we will burn him. If something goes wrong, KTR [Telangana minister KT Rama Rao] both the government and the police are responsible. We will definitely nail him and bring him back if he comes to Telangana, it’s a challenge.”
Munawar Farooqui spent 37 days in jail after someone complained that he mocked Hindu gods during a stand-up comedy performance in Indore. The arrest was condemned in India and in the West. The Supreme Court later ordered his release. He is the winner of the first season of Lock Upp. Over the months, his shows were canceled in many cities. He also said that he is thinking of giving up his profession as a stand-up comedian. Munawar Faruqui is rumored to be one of the contestants of Bigg Boss 16 coming in October 2022.
