Why Kristen Kish’s restaurants at the end of the world aren’t just about the food on display

When it comes to cooking showsthere are few that really focus on the people rather than the food – but with Restaurants at the end of the world, that’s exactly what the show sets out to do.

Restaurants at the end of the world is the latest cooking show hosted by Kristen Kish, and while it doesn’t set out to teach viewers the basics of cooking, it does take fans on a wild journey around the world to some of the world’s most remote restaurants. Quiche, which is a Top boss winner, TV personality and restaurateur, can try wild new foods you’d never expect, like deer tongue. She can also be seen going down a waterfall to use watercress for a new recipe.

Yes, the food draw is something anyone would be interested in watching, but when speaking with CinemaBlend about the show, Kish was the first to agree that Restaurants at the end of the world, while highlighting some incredible, out-of-this-world cuisine, it also focuses on the people behind the food and the culture they have.

We talk about food, we talk about where the food comes from, we go and get the ingredients, but on the other side of what I think is the beauty of this show is that it can use not only food but also just people, saying : “Who’s doing this and why are they doing it and what’s driving them?” And those things put together really give you a complete picture of their food and the food they inevitably serve to their guests.

Kish said the idea came to her a long time ago and through National Geographic it was almost like a combination of her personal and professional life coming together where she was able to get to know these people in these amazing restaurants while expanding her knowledge of food. .

We’re not going to these places to explore the local cuisine – we’re going to explore a very specific, personal cuisine and views on food, which already makes you want to know about these people, because I’ve always said to know a chef’s food is to know where they come from outside the food.

There is an abundance of new cooking shows and great baking shows out, like Gordon Ramsay’s Fox’s latest hit, Next level chef (joining his plenty of cooking shows out there).

Another one that came out recently is HBO Max Original, The big brunchbut nothing is quite the same as Restaurants End of the world. No competition, no drama – just the pure love of good food and great people.

Something that Kish even really enjoyed about filming the series is that while she was there to work and cook, there were also times when she was off the clock and could hang out with the subjects of each episode, which was where where she “really got to know them” outside of the kitchen.

I got to interact with these people and get to know who they are, which is one of the beautiful parts, and I think the way I was able to and we were able to connect on camera… was the fact that what was happening off camera .

For such an intimate experience as cooking in the most remote places in the world, Kish would be the first to do it again for the chance to meet the people behind the dish one more time.

Restaurants at the end of the world premieres every week (opens in new tab) at 10 p.m. on National Geographic, while it premieres the following day on Disney+.
