Priyanka Chopra is a global superstar, but in 2003, when the actress made her Bollywood debut with Andaaz, things were not easy for her. He also starred in the film Lara Dutta and Akshay Kumar, and turned out to be a huge hit at the box office. However, the shooting of the film came to a halt due to Priyanka’s inability to dance as per the standards set by Bollywood.
Priyanka to break dance Bollywood style
In an interview with Times of India, producer Suneel Darshan revealed that it was a challenge for Priyanka to crack the Bollywood-style dance moves that were required for the song “Allah Kare Dil Na Lage Kisise”. Despite her best efforts, the team had to halt the international shoot in Cape Town and the makers had to enroll Priyanka in dance lessons for 45 days.
Priyanka’s journey from a beauty queen to a successful Bollywood actress was not easy. After winning the Miss India World title, she was showered with film offers and initially she planned to enter the world of Bollywood with Humraaz. However, things did not work out and her debut film turned out to be The Hero: A Spy Love Story opposite Sunny Deol.
Andaaz was a conscious choice by the makers
Andaaz was a conscious choice by the makers as they wanted the two beauty pageant queens to make their Bollywood debut with the film. Despite the initial setback, the team resumed shooting and the film turned out to be a huge success at the box office, grossing 288 million at the box office after being made on a budget of 80 million.
Suneel Darshan also revealed that the halt in filming was initially due to the impending birth of Akshay Kumar’s first child with his wife Twinkle Khanna. Because of this, they had to take a break and after returning to Mumbai, Priyanka was enrolled in dance lessons with Veenu Prakash, a Bollywood choreographer. Finally, the shooting was completed and the story remained.
Priyanka Chopra’s journey to becoming a global icon was not without obstacles. However, her persistence, dedication and hard work led her to become one of the best actresses Bollywood has ever produced.
