White shared how he felt down 28-3 against the Atlanta Falcons, and while there may have been some doubt, he wasn’t going to go out that way.
On February 5, 2017, White all but secured a future spot in the New England Patriots Hall of Fame.
The numbers sound even more absurd in retrospect, but in what became one of the greatest comebacks in sports history, White had 14 catches for 110 receiving yards, a receiving touchdown, 29 yards carrying, two rushing touchdowns and 2-point conversion lifted the Patriots to an overtime victory.
Even Tom Brady knew White should have been the Super Bowl MVP after that game, implied when the quarterback gave his faithful running back the Chevrolet Colorado that Brady himself was awarded with. Unsurprisingly, White tried to pass on the brilliance to Dont’a Hightower instead.
“I mean, you definitely feel like it’s over — that’s for sure,” White said. “But for me, it was my first opportunity to play in the Super Bowl, and I definitely didn’t want to go out like that. I just wanted to do what I could to fight and scratch and scratch to help us get back into a football game. Obviously, it wasn’t just my playing that got us back into it, but I wanted to do what I could to scratch and scratch to get us back into it. It took a lot of big games. We just kept getting closer and closer and I think one time Dont’a did that tape sack that really put us on the hump. We got this.
