Aamir Khan has been facing calls to boycott Laal Singh Chaddha ever since he started promoting his recently released film. Because of this, the film saw a big drop in its box office. Breaking her silence on the controversy, Aamir’s co-star Mona Singh asked people what Mr. Perfectionist has done to deserve so much hate after entertaining audiences for the past three decades.
“I was very sad. I mean, what did Aamir Khan do to deserve this? He is a man who has always entertained us for the past 30 years. But I was very confident that the boycotters would turn up once they started seeing that the film resonated with every Indian,” Mona told India Today.
Ahead of the release, Aamir addressed the criticism and told the media, “If I have hurt anyone in any way, I am sorry. I don’t want to hurt anyone. If someone doesn’t want to see the movie, I respect their feelings. However, I would love for people to go see the film because it is our labor of love. A lot of people have worked hard on this film and I hope people like it.”
On the other hand, Kareena Kapoor Khan, who also faced heavy backlash for her statement about people boycotting Laal Singh Chaddha, asked fans to watch her film as she wants to see her and Aamir together after a long time on screen.
Laal Singh Chaddha’s box office collection was severely affected by the boycott calls over the festive weekend. The film has so far collected Rs 27.71 crore in three days of its release. It remains to be seen if the Aamir starrer shows some signs of growth in the coming days.
