According to reports and a trade source, Mani Ratnam is directing PS1 has already collected ₹10 crore gross from Tamil Nadu alone through pre-booking for say 1 and as today, Thursday, September 29, still remains before the film releases on Friday, September 30, both the distribution sector and the the exhibition reckons the number could exceed Rs 15 crore gross. These are just the opening day numbers as as mentioned before the Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi starrer is already booked for several weekend shows in Tamil Nadu.

Across the ocean too Poniyin Selvan 1 looks set to fill its coffers with Rs 6.8 crore gross already coming in on Day 1 from US and Canada alone, while the overseas advance booking total is pegged at a whopping Rs 20 crore gross. All these are just preliminary numbers and much more is expected with seat booking or booking on the day it opens for later shows, hence the Baahubali 2 comparison. Having said that, the overwhelming response came only in Tamil Nadu and overseas, with the combined advance for Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and the Hindi market being just ₹1 crore gross, of which only ₹20 lakh was collected for its Hindi version.
