Enninful’s journey, meanwhile, began when he was “discovered on a train” as a teenager by stylist Simon Foxton, which led to him becoming a model before being appointed as fashion director of i-D magazine at just 18. “I remember stepping on my first photoshoot as a model – I saw the set, other models and photographer and I knew in that moment this was going to be my world,” he recalls. “I didn’t know in what capacity, but I knew that was it.”
In the years since they started their careers, as Enninful points out, tech and the internet have changed everything in fashion. Platforms such as YouTube, says Beckham, mean that she can “get directly to my customer and my community very, very quickly. I can show personality and a sense of humour. We don’t rely on the media to tell our story, we can tell it ourselves. I can livestream our fashion shows. I can use YouTube to collaborate with other artists.”

What hasn’t changed is the need to know everything about your craft in order to be a success and in the episode the pair share some valuable tips and life lessons they’ve learned through trial and error. “Be a sponge,” says Beckham. “I would tell a young designer to work for another brand. Learn while someone else is paying the bills. It’s a big responsibility to have your own brand.”
Enninful agrees. “See how it’s done,” he says to those aspiring to be a fashion editor. “I always say you learn as much from your failures as your successes.”
Indeed, neither Enninful or Beckham are done with their journeys. “I have so much ambition,” says Beckham, “so much drive. I’m just scratching the surface, not just with fashion but with beauty as well. I believe the sky is the limit.”
