Is it possible to hate something you created? Seems like more than that.
Tom Hanks’ career has so far covered more than four decades. During that time, you probably have seen him in every movie genre. He was a part of powerful and deeply meaningful Oscar movies, for example like Captain Phillips and Bridge of Spies.
But he also was the same one to star in not-so-serious films like Joe Versus the Volcano or Big. Hanks is widely regarded as one of the most endearing actors currently in the business.
He is not only an actor but also an acclaimed film director. However, you may be shocked to learn that he is not always happy about it and sometimes even hates the movies he makes.
As he revealed in the interview with The New Yorker, he believes that there are five major Rubicon points that everyone who makes movies has to cross. He highlighted the most important one in the business of filmmaking.
“The second Rubicon is when you actually see the movie you made. Either it works and it’s the movie you wanted to make, or it doesn’t work and it’s not the movie you wanted to make,” he said in the interview.
There’s another important Rubicon. Actually, it’s time. Because for a movie to be truly appreciated, it has to stand the test of it.
For example, Hanks does not believe that his films Cloud Atlas or Turner in Hooch are even worse to watch because they could never stand the test of time.
Still, it is hard to trust Hanks in this matter. He once thought that even Forrest Gump would be a flop. But that never happened. Instead, the movie is still very popular and loved by many people today.
Hanks’ movie Splash is also loved despite its silliness and will even get a modern remake.
Well, it seems that Tom Hanks is his own worst critic. And the movies he hates are actually not that bad and definitely deserve to be on his list of accomplishments.
