This week’s best celebrity beauty looks were flirty and fun

Actor Melissa Barrera had several inspired makeup looks this week, including this simple blue liner.

Celebrities may have a lot of help – and money – when it comes to their beauty routines, but they can provide plenty of inspiration if you’re feeling like you’re stick in a rut and need some fresh ideas.

From pastel and metallic makeup to deliberate regrowth (that’s something most of us can relate to), the beauty moments that caught our eye this week are a reminder to not take it too seriously.

Priya Kansara

We love seeing sculptural hair on the red carpet, like this sleek, striking do from actor Priya at the UK premiere of the film Polite Society. It was created by Rio Sreedharan, a favourite of celebrities like FKA Twigs, Dua Lipa and Yara Shahidi – and really deserves to be shown off from all angles

Chloë Sevigny

The It Girl is an example of learning what works for you, and sticking with it while continuing to embrace experimentation when it comes to fashion and beauty. For the H&M x Mugler launch event, she opted for a basically bare face, mascara on the upper and lower lashes, a bold red lipstick and a ponytail slicked back (use gel – or lube – to replicate it at home), with severe side-part.

Did you know that Sevigny once created her dream red lipstick shade with beauty brand La Bouche Rouge? We can’t tell you if she’s wearing it here, but in the past she’s talked about how she favours an orange-red, and that she’s a “red-lips-with-everything kind of girl”.

Wallice

The musician was adorable wearing pieces from some New Zealand brands when she supported The 1975 at their gig on Friday night, including a Twenty-seven Names blouse and mini skirt, Baobei heart necklace and two (Ensemble-approved) hair bows by Caitlin Snell.

Her double braid pigtails adorned with oversized ribbons on each feels like a fresh way to wear a hair bow. Be inspired too by her natural makeup paired with subtle cat eyeliner in shade of red.

Rio Viera-Newton

It’s easy to fall back on the ‘classics’ (smokey eye, no makeup makeup, nude lip), but it can be fun to experiment with the unexpected – like pastels.

Beauty journalist Rio Viera-Newton shared a how-to for a “pastel party”, writing that while “bright colors can be super intimidating (both to wear and apply), but it’s really just about using a few different fluffy eyeshadow brushes and tooons of blending. It’s a lot easier than it looks!”.

Yara Shahidi

Inspired by the actor’s role as Tinkerbell in the new Disney adaptation of Peter Pan & Wendy, this is the type of makeup that gets better the more you look at it.

Created by makeup artist Nikki Wolff, it features “ultra fine” gold details using Dior Beauty, that only show in certain light – metallic lining on the upper lid and two faux lash lines on the bottom of one eye.

Rio Sreedharan, who was also behind Priya Kansara’s hair this week, created Shahidi’s braids, while the incredible gold dress is by Alexander McQueen.

Elizabeth Olsen

These textured beachy waves, created by hair stylist DJ Quintero, are lovely and wearable, but it’s the unapologetic patch of regrowth that we like most.

Parris Goebel

Our Kiwi queen was also at the H&M x Mugler launch, with statement hair that’s reminiscent of TLC’s Lisa Left Eye Lopes’ iconic look. Shoutout to the slicked down baby hairs/edges.

Melissa Barrera

The actor has been on the press trail for the film Carmen, with several bold beauty looks worth saving and revisiting when you want to try something fun: a 1960s-inspired winged liner, the perfect bouncy ponytail and a relatively simple but fun turquoise cat-eye.
