Joy Behar is well aware that she has critics thanks to “The View.” But she’s pretty sure those critics only hate her because the show makes her a “strong person.”
In a new interview with TIME, Behar bragged about being “a favorite target of Breitbart and Fox” and noted that she really doesn’t care much what mean things people have to say about her. She doesn’t say things with the intention of provoking people, she just thinks people are crazy because she has such a huge audience thanks to the show.
“You have power when you have that microphone,” Behar said. “People don’t like it. They don’t like me being an influencer on “The View” saying things they don’t like, but I’m sorry, that’s where I am. I’m an influencer on “The View”; I was a strong personality as a comedian holding a microphone. Very bad.”
The host also admitted that she’s never too worried about the things she says anyway because she’s only gotten into trouble unintentionally.
“This whole idea of canceling people because of what they say, I would say the answer to that is: What was your intention?” she added. “Everything I got in trouble for wasn’t intentional.”
Host Sunny Hostin told TIME that Behar really doesn’t even remember most of the inflammatory things she says on the show because “she just leaves it on the table and then moves on to another day.”
However, Behar also noted that she won’t be as devastated when her time on “The View” is finally over and her power wanes. Asked if she would miss the fame – or infamy – at all, Behar said she wouldn’t.
“You know what they say — the show must stop,” she noted.
