Creator Raaj Shaandilyaa (writer-director of Dream Girl) enters into the OTT Universe with this comedy of errors, which starts on a promising note but soon loses its sheen. It definitely has all the elements of a Bollywood blockbuster, from the music to the grand presentation, but with too many plot twists, a variety of characters crammed in, and a predictable climax, ‘The Great Weddings of Munnes’ fails to live up to its hype.

Abhishek Banerjee, as the hapless Munnes, plays him with the right amount of innocence — Munnes faints when Maahi proposes to him — and growing exasperation with his continuing ill-luck. As his aunt says, his fate is like dahi-handi, it keeps breaking. It is because the character, who could have been borderline creepy, is so earnest, lovelorn and desperate to wed the woman he loves, he makes the viewer care about how his story pans out.

Overall, the rom-com show rests heavily on the cast’s performances and they don’t fail to deliver. ‘The Great Weddings of Munnes’ is a good attempt and quite a good balancing act between the audience base of two different mediums.
