The former royal butler insists Prince Harry is “saying things that don’t add up” now

Grant Harold served as King Charles III’s personal butler from 2004 to 2011. During this time he also looked after Camilla, Queen Consort (formerly Camilla Parker Bowles), as well as Prince William and Prince Harry when they stayed at Highgrove House.

Harold, like the rest of the world, publicly watched the Duke of Sussex’s battle against his family. But as a former member of the royal family, Harold can offer insight that most people can’t. Here’s what he thinks about what Harry says in interviews and why it “doesn’t add up”.

Harold claims Prince Harry ‘said things that don’t add up’

Following Harry and Meghan Markle’s Netflix documentary, the prince aired more of the family’s dirty laundry in interviews while on tour to promote his memoir Spare. Speaking on behalf of the Spin Genie, Harold discussed how some of the things he hears Harry say now just “don’t add up” to everything he’s witnessed in the seven years he’s worked for the family.

“The problem is, I guess he’s trying to reach out to the establishment, obviously the press, and that they’re working together. Of course they do, it’s no secret,” stated Harold. “I was aware of that and that’s how it worked out, they’re constantly working together. The bit that is difficult for me is this [Harry’s] I found out “his truth” as he calls it, and the way I was brought up and the way I learned in life is that I don’t believe. If someone says they have a story, I’m always willing to listen, but there are always two sides to a story that I think are very important. We can’t hear the other side and I don’t think we will be able to hear the other side.

Harold added: “[Harry] has said things that I think are true, he’s also said things that I know don’t add up. I wouldn’t say it’s a lie, it just doesn’t work. People are getting it… there is confusion. I think that’s why I really agree with everyone who says it’s better to stop all this and move away from it.

The former butler believes the Duke could have approached things differently instead of money

Harry was asked in his interview for Good morning America about feeling like selling out his family for money, and Harold believes there was another way for the Duke to vent his concerns than “Netflix deals and million-pound books”.

The former royal butler explained: “The parts that are true, like when he said that the institution runs their lives, well, with the greatest respect, it does. I don’t agree with either of those, but it does.” When you’ve worked for the royal family, you see that. Housekeeping manages the diaries, the schedules, what they do every day from the office to the butlers. There’s a team there to make everything work efficiently and there’s a lot of politics, there’s politics in a lot of organizations and obviously there’s something that he thinks is wrong or not working right and he wants to change it.

“When you have an organization or a company like the monarchy, it’s difficult. The way he does it, if he wants to make changes and say there are things he says need to be fixed or changed, I don’t think that’s the way to do it. He also said he was unable to contact his brother and father. Instead of going and doing a million pound deal with Netflix or selling your story and doing all the interviews why don’t you write an open letter to his dad? Before all of this started, he could put his worries aside if he thought it could get to him that way. Something like that if he really can’t get to his father without money. That’s why people question him. There’s nothing wrong with what he’s doing, working with the media, I’m working with the media, but there are ways to do it.”
