What are you talking about?
The plot begins with a king in the 18th century who offers a piece of forest land to the villagers when he receives peace and joy through their local deity. Later, one of the king’s descendants tried to reclaim the offered land, but failed in his attempt. Finally, after 20 years, the forest officer Muralidhar (Kishor) tries to grab this land again. This time the villagers have a savior in the form of Shiva (Rishab Shetty). How does he save the forest and who will win the conflict is the bottom line?
What’s new?
Rishabh Shetty is the heart and soul of the film. He gets a bland role and rocks it with his massive screen presence. The actor played the role authentically. Its performance in the last 15 minutes turns out to be a treat for any moviegoer. Kishore is great in his role. Achyuth Kumar and Sapthami Gowda are impressive.
As for the technical aspects, Rishab Shetty needs a special mention for his brilliant writing. Above all, the way he connects nature, god and people is impressive. The cinematography steals the show. The editing and dialogues are decent. The production values are top notch. The songs and background score are decent.
Kantara is a rooted story and the director has managed to tell it with good commercial elements. The first 15 minutes and the last 15 minutes are the main highlights of the film. The first fifteen minutes of the film establish the world of Kantara. We’re getting engaged right away. The comedy parts are also very good.
What is not?
After an intense first half an hour, the film deviates a bit later with its stereotypical ad sequences. Even the semicolon isn’t very catchy. If the director had stuck to an artistic narrative with only a few commercial elements, the film would have been more engaging. The love song between the hero and the heroine may not go down well with the Telugu audience.
