Director SS Rajamouli made one of his biggest hits of his career with Jr NTR and Ram Charan starrer RRR. The film became one of the highest-grossing films of the post-pandemic era. Not only in India but RRR also impressed many filmmakers in the West. While RRR has been nominated for Oscars 2023, SS Rajamouli has already confirmed the sequel to his magnum opus.
The director recently attended an event in Chicago and confirmed that he will be making the sequel to RRR. He also added that his father and veteran screenwriter KV Vijayendra Prasad is currently working on the plot of the film. “My father is the story writer for all my films. We have discussed ‘RRR 2’ a bit and he is working on the story,” he said.
RRR was recently released in Japan on October 21st and managed to strike the right chord with the audience. The film was released in 209 screens and 31 Imax screens in 44 cities and prefectures in Japan. Rajamouli, NTR Jr and Ram Charan visited Japan on a promotional tour for the film.
RRR started at number ten and the first nine films were all local Japanese productions. The film was the highest-grossing foreign film of the week, ahead of Bad Boys, Spencer and Jurassic World Domination. However, Rajinikanth-starrer Muthu remains the highest-grossing Indian film of all time in Japan, thanks to the popularity of Thalaivar.
After its hugely successful theatrical run, RRR continued to enthrall audiences on the OTT platform. A few months ago, The Russo Brothers heaped praise on RRR and felt honored to meet the ace director. The trio got up to discuss their various loves of the genre and what inspires fans around the world via a virtual meeting.
