SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Two South Lake Tahoe students got the experience of a lifetime at Edgewood Tahoe last week during the American Century Championship. Recently graduated Bruce Kuntz and incoming junior Emerson Ramirez, received “all-access passes to a day of the tournament and conducted interviews with the celebrities, experienced the press room, media tent, and walked the course inside the ropes.

Tony Sunzeri, teacher and coach at South Tahoe High School (STHS), worked with Phil Weidinger of Weidinger Public Relations to get the two students onto the course. This is the second year the PR firm has allowed STHS students into the tournament for a day full of learning experiences.

As the celebrities golfed, not one of them denied the students’ request for an interview.

Sunzeri said Bruce did his homework on the athletes participating and asked well-thought-out questions and used his experience from having a show on VTV at the school.

“This is a great experience for the kids,” said Sunzeri. “They were treated like a peer.”

Bruce is headed off to Long Beach State in the fall to major in Journalism, and while Emerson doesn’t plan on a technical career at this time, his passion for coding, graphic arts, and sound engineering is fulfilled during his summers off and his after-hours work.

For Bruce, his interview with NBA star Steph Curry has been the highlight of his life. It sounds like Bruce has a fan too.

“Twenty years from now, I’m going to say Aaron Rodgers Tuesday was cool, but chatting with Bruce on the Par 3 was even cooler because of what you’re going to do,” said former NFL kicker and current sports analyst Pat McAfee during his interview. He also gave a shoutout to cameraman Emerson.
