Southern actress and politician Jayasudha questioned the Indian government for honoring Kangana Ranaut with the Padma Shri, which is the fourth highest civilian award of the Republic of India after the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan and Padma Bhushan.
Jayasudha, along with her contemporary Jaya Prada, recently appeared on Nandamuri Balakrishna’s talk show Unstoppable, where they talked about how the Indian government does not recognize southern artistes for their work in the film industry.
To explain his point, Jayasudha gave the example of Kangana and how she received the Padma Shri award with just over 10 films in her acting career, while actors who have worked for many decades in the industry have not received recognition for their work.
“I don’t agree with Kangana Ranaut getting the Padma Shri. She is an amazing actress. Yet she got this award within 10 films. We have worked on many films here but they are not recognized by the government,” said Jayasudha. added that even Guinness record holder director Vijaya Nirmala did not get such appreciation. She feels bad that Yug is not appreciated by the government.
Jayasudha further mentioned that the recognition should come from the government itself and not when they ask for it. Jaya Prada agreed with Jayasudha’s statement and said, “We should get it with respect and not by asking for it.” She further added that she had demanded Bharat Ratna for NTR when she was an MP and is still trying to get them. made them think about it till now. Balakrishna also agreed with the two actresses that actors from the South should be recognised.
When Kangana received her Padma Shri award from President Ram Nath Kovind last year, many people questioned its value and claimed that the actress got the award because of her bias towards the ruling BJP government.
