Chris Pratt has come a long way since playing Andy Dwyer on the beloved NBC comedy Parks and recreation areas. Since the show ended, Pratt has starred in major film franchises such as jurassic world and that of the Marvel Cinematic Universe the guardians of the galaxy.
In recent years, Pratt has begun to receive criticism on the Internet. Criticism has ranged from being voted “Worst Chris” compared to Chris Evans, Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth to being condemned for his alleged political and religious views.
In a recent interview with Men’s Health, Pratt stated that he is “not a religious person.” However, some fans still don’t believe Pratt even after the interview was published.
Chris Pratt Says He’s ‘Not a Religious Person’
In the interview with Men’s Health, Pratt addressed many of the controversies that have been raised on the Internet in recent years. Those who know Pratt also took time to defend the actor.
James Gunn, who directed Pratt on numerous occasions the guardians of the galaxy movies spoke out in support of Pratt, telling Men’s Health:
“It absolutely infuriates me. Chris is indescribably kind to people; he does his best to help the children. He is a particularly loving father. And there’s a lot of things that people have literally just made up about him—about his politics, about who he is, about what other people believe, you know?”
While being interviewed by Men’s Health, Pratt clarified his religious views to make sure fans don’t assume anything about him.
“Religion has been oppressive as hell for a long time,” Pratt told Men’s Health. “I didn’t know I was going to be the face of religion when I’m not really a religious person.”

In the Men’s Health interview, Pratt also shared how he interprets religion in his everyday life, saying:
“I think there is a difference between being religious— adhering to man-made customs, often misappropriating the awe reserved for whom I believe to be a very real God — and using it to control people, take money from people, abuse children, steal land, justify hatred. Whatever it is. The evil that is in every man’s heart has come down to the back of religion and intervened.”
Some fans doubt Chris Pratt says he’s not ‘religious’
After the Men’s Health article was published, Internet users analyzed Pratt’s words and discussed the article on social media. For some, Pratt’s sentiments weren’t enough to convince them.
“This is the man who carried a huge cross up the hill at Easter, but he wants us to believe that he is not religious. Haha yeah ok of course,” wrote a fan on Reddit.
“This is such a transparently desperate attempt at a PR cleanup lol. “I’m not that religious guys! Anyway, I was golfing with my pastor the other day… Even the Instagram and Twitter comment sections aren’t into it,” one fan wrote on Reddit.
“I would believe that Chris Pratt is a Christian and a decent person if he ever just spoke out when reproductive rights or LGBTQ rights were threatened (or even when he was asked)… But Chris doesn’t, so I don’t . It’s not that hard to be a Christian and be a good person. Chris just isn’t,” wrote a Reddit user.

Other fans defended the actor online
While many were quick to condemn Pratt after the Men’s Health interview, other fans took to social media to defend the actor.
“People need to stop twisting what he said. He very clearly meant that he does not necessarily identify as “religious” because religion has harmed so many people. It has nothing to do with his relationship with God or what he believes in,” a Reddit user wrote.
“I’m not criticizing him for that by the way. He has every right to love his church and his religion and I honestly think he got more criticism than he should have… I think people are just pointing out how stupid it is for him to say he’s not religious right now,” one fan wrote in Reddit.
“Man, the internet mob is in full force here. Pure hatred. Pure toxicity. That’s all this story is… Leave Chris Pratt alone. He’s just a guy like everyone else. People attack him because they are angry, but he has absolutely no power to change anything in this country,” wrote a Reddit user.
Although Pratt took the time to defend himself in his recent interview with Men’s Health, he still seems to be a controversial name to some on the internet.
