“Green Thumb,” “Processing Magic,” “Suga Brown,” “Sonata,” “Tessellations” and “Treasure Hunt” will be screened as part of the 23rd annual Real to Reel Film Festival at the Joy Performance Center in Kings Mountain, NC , Wednesday, July 27 – Saturday, July 30. Rising fourth-year animation student May Connor hosts Film Conversations at the Festival.
UNCSA Short Film Screening
Animated Short “Processing magic” opens the festival on Wednesday, July 27, at 7:00 p.m. Processing Magic is written and directed by Vale Stanley and Joe Knorp; with lead animators Cameron Pannone and Joe Knorp; edited by Meg Fisher; sound design by Meg Fisher; and music by Corey Bailey.
Two more animated shorts, ‘Green Thumb’ and ‘Treasure Hunt’, open Thursday night screenings at 7pm on Thursday 28 July.
“Green thumb” was written and directed by Beau Sheil; produced by Robert Mageau; with lead animators Bo Shiel, Spencer Dowdy and Max Skinner; background design by Alaina Watkins; edited by Daniel Christie; sound design by Daniel Christie; and music by Michael McKeithen, Jr.
“Treasure hunt” was written and directed by Lauren White; with lead animation and backgrounds by Lauren White; edited by Conor Callahan; sound design by Conor Callahan; and music by Piers Martin.
Short story “Tessellations” on Saturday, July 30, an afternoon screening block starting at 1:00 p.m. “Tesellations” was written by Priscilla Witt; directed by Eva McKeon; produced by Ali Castillo and Priscilla Witt; cinematography by Stuart Jeffers; production design by Kaitlyn Day, editing by Aly Lee.
The animated short Sonata and the short story Shuga Brown are in the last screening block at 7pm on Saturday 30 July.
“Sonata” is written, directed, and with lead animation by Madison Crisp, Abby Davenport, Fern Singleton, and Vic Sosa; with a story by Haley Hudson and Ava Tennis; produced by Robert Mago and Haley Hudson; edited by Lyric Abbott; sound design by Lyric Abbott; and music by Ryan Mulder.
“Shuga Brown” was directed by Clark Phillips; written by Pat LaGue and Clarke Phillips; produced by Blaine McIndoe and Cherise Honoré; cinematography by Jack Moller; production design by Rin Rlayang; edited by Shane Gaber; sound design by Shane Gaber; special effects supervision by Brianna Lanzen and Jonny Weaver; music by Isaac Silva; costume design by Whitney Fabre; and hair and makeup design by Rose Eubanks.
Reel to Real passes are $50, individual screening tickets are $8 in advance or $10 at the door.
A UNCSA animation student is hosting “Reel Conversations” to promote the festival
In addition to films, rising fourth-year animator May Bonner is a SECU Public Fellow interning at the Real to Reel Festival this summer. During the build-up to the festival, May hosted “Reel Conversations,” a series of interviews with filmmakers to help promote the festival on the Cleveland County Arts Council’s YouTube channel.
