  • Covers modules such as pitching, product-market-fit, brand identity
  • Help create sustainable ecosystem for talent in modest fashion sector

Realising the need to embrace the fashion industry as part of digitalising local SMEs and startups, Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) announced their Top 16 candidates for their first-ever Selangor Fashion Accelerator 2022.

In a multi-racial country like Malaysia, the fashion scene has changed dynamically as we witness the evolution of the Malaysian modest fashion into what it is today. This 2-month intensive programme seeks to help Malaysian startups and SMEs create a sustainable ecosystem for talent in the modest fashion sector by offering engaging experiences that will raise brand awareness in the marketplace and which will include specially curated workshops and mentoring sessions led by renowned fashion professionals. Additionally, the programme also gained major support from Malaysia’s well-known music icon and businesswoman, Siti Nurhaliza and other notable fashion entrepreneurs like Rasta Rashid, Leslie Variyan and Wong Lee Leng.

“Since there aren’t many accelerator programmes exclusively for the fashion industry, Sidec is stepping up to support emerging fashion businesses in growing their revenue and investment prospects. Giving business owners a chance and platform to share their ideas and creativity is a component that motivates these entrepreneurs to be bold and confident about what they want to explore and present,” said Yong Kai Ping, CEO of Sidec in his welcoming remarks.

Conducted via a hybrid class style (online and offline), the programme covers modules such as pitching fundamental skill, product-market-fit, brand identity or brand DNA, innovation of textile, fundraising sharing session and IP/trademark.

The 16 shortlisted entrepreneurs will get access to benefits such as RM948 worth of SQL account, RM588 worth of SQL payroll, RM600 worth of Sprii Commerce Light & Easy Package and Pingspace starter package.

All 16 candidates will receive training from 1 August to 23 September, and only six will be chosen to pitch to investors and industry partners on the Demo Day, which will take place on 8 October 2022 at [email protected] 6, in conjunction with the 7th Selangor Smart City and Digital Economy Convention (SDEC).

Winners may receive potential investment opportunities from The Hive Southeast Asia and Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd (PNSB).
