Shah Rukh Khan’s espionage thriller Pathaan which was released in cinema halls on January 25, 2023, has continued its good run at the box office. The Siddharth Anand directorial has become the fifth Indian movie to surpass the Rs. 1000 crore mark worldwide. Confirming the same, YRF shared a post that read: “First Hindi film to breach Rs. 1000 crore worldwide barrier during phase 1 of release.

Apart from Khan, the fourth movie in YRF’s spy universe— Pathaan also stars Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in prominent roles. The espionage thriller which collected Rs 55 crore in the domestic circuit on its first day, according to Firstpost, has shattered many box office records since then. Below, is a list of Indian movies which have earned more than Rs 1000 crore at the box office worldwide. These movies feature Aamir Khan, Prabhas and a few more notable actors in lead roles.

1. Pathaan

One of the most-awaited movies of 2023, Pathaan, which was released in more than 100 countries earlier this year, has achieved a new milestone. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer has become the fifth Indian movie to surpass the Rs. 1000 crore mark worldwide. Directed by Siddharth Anand, the espionage thriller also features Deepika Padukone and John Abraham in pivotal roles. Made with a budget of Rs. 250 crore, Pathaan was released on nearly 5500 domestic and 2500 international screens.

2. RRR

Filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s period action drama RRR starring Ram Charan and Jr NTR broke several box office records last year. The plot of the movie which revolved around an Indian British officer and tribal leader who join hands to fight against British rule in India received a good response in the West as well. According to India Today, the Rajamouli directorial which succeeded in bringing the audience back to cinema halls in 2022, collected Rs. 1131 crore worldwide. The movie made history on January 11 when it won a Golden Globe award for the Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu, composed by celebrated musician MM Keeravani.

3. KGF: Chapter 2

The successful actor-director duo of Kannada superstar Yash and Prashanth Neel reunited for the sequel of their action-packed franchise KGF in 2022. Made with a budget of Rs 100 crore, KGF: Chapter 2 emerged as one of the highest-earning movies of 2022 with a massive collection of Rs. 1228 crore, according to Indian Express. In addition to Yash, the action drama also featured Sanjay Dutt, Srinidhi Shetty, Prakash Raj and Raveena Tandon.

4. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion

Known for producing larger-than-life movies, filmmaker SS Rajamouli left critics and cinephiles speechless with his Baahubali franchise. While the first instalment emerged as one of the highest-grossing movies of 2015, the second instalment, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which was released in 2017, broke several records as it soared at the box office. According to Economic Times, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion earned a total of Rs. 1810 crore worldwide. The epic action franchise featured Prabhas and Rana Daggubati in lead roles.

5. Dangal

Aamir Khan’s last release Laal Singh Chaddha might have struggled to excel at the box office, but the highest-earning Indian movie worldwide stars the 57-year-old actor. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal, the biographical sports drama tells the tale of former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters: Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, who won gold medals in wrestling for the country at the Commonwealth Games. According to Economic Times, Dangal collected Rs. 2000 crore worldwide, however, it achieved the milestone in two phases of release.
