PLEDIS Entertainment issues a statement regarding recent ‘inappropriate fan behavior’ like stalking, invasion of privacy, and excessive physical contact
MANILA, Philippines – PLEDIS Entertainment, the agency of K-pop group SEVENTEEN, issued a warning on Thursday, October 6, regarding the recent inappropriate behavior of the group’s fans.
Some of the actions that have been compromising the safety and privacy of the members include stalking, excessive physical contact, taking photos and videos up close, invasion of privacy, and improperly acquiring information about the members’ whereabouts or flights. PLEDIS said that these repeated activities have been happening whenever SEVENTEEN enters other countries for concerts.
Fans also have been “indiscriminately taking photos at airport areas where photography is not allowed, and causing discomfort and inconveniences to others by blocking other passenger’s ways, using inappropriate language and creating noise and commotion.” There have also been instances of fans buying or selling the members’ personal information and invading their privacy by visiting their homes or sending over gifts and letters.
“We would like to provide SEVENTEEN Fan Etiquette to create healthy fan culture and to protect artists’ safety and rights,” PLEDIS said.
The “Fan Etiquette” rules include:
- not visiting unofficial engagement venues or private spaces
- not stalking the artists
- not selling or buying artists’ personal information
- not taking photographs or videos except where permitted
- not interfering with artist-related activities
- not engaging in other appropriate actions
The complete set of rules can be found on WeVerse.
PLEDIS said that in case of violation of any of the etiquette rules, the agency is allowed to strip fans of their “eligibility to carry the official SEVENTEEN Global Fan Club Membership (CARAT MEMBERSHIP) or be restricted or prohibited from receiving the benefits without prior warning.” Violators will be barred from entering any SEVENTEEN activity or will be escorted out. If a fan is caught taking photos or videos without permission, the materials will be deleted.
“We hold no responsibility for any devices damaged while you are being escorted out. If any actions that do not comply with the etiquette rules above are found to be unlawful, evidence may be collected and violators may be subject to civil and criminal penalties,” PLEDIS added, reiterating that a “sound fan culture” is needed to protect the right of the artists.
SEVENTEEN arrived in Manila on Friday, October 7, for the Be The Sun world tour. The 13-member group is performing at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) Arena on Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9. Prior to Manila, they were in Bangkok and Jakarta. Their upcoming stops are in Singapore and Japan. – Rappler.com
