Back in 2020, while shooting for Shamshera, Sanjay Dutt was diagnosed with lung cancer. He recently spoke about his struggle and battle with the disease. He revealed that he wanted to choose death over treatment. However, he later recovered and resumed work. Read on to find out why he decided to end his life rather than fight cancer.
Sanjay Dutt contracted lung cancer while shooting for Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Shamshera. He continued to work and also shot action scenes in KGF 2 during the treatment. Dutt said he was not properly informed about the cancer news as he had no family members by his side. He also mentioned that there is a history of cancer in his family.
At a recent event, Sanju revealed that he told his sister after he was diagnosed with cancer that he did not want chemotherapy. He chose death over treatment, recalling his family’s history of cancer. His mother Nargis died of pancreatic cancer and his wife Richa Sharma died of brain cancer.
The actor shared the struggles and challenges he faced during the treatment. Sanjay first suffered from back pain and was treated with a hot water bottle and given painkillers until the day he faced breathing problems. He is later accidentally informed that he has cancer and none of his family is around.
Looking back on his family’s history of death due to cancer, Sanjay chose to die. His wife was in Dubai so his sister was by his side and he told her that if the outcome was going to be death then he would rather die than receive treatment. “I don’t want to take chemotherapy. If I have to die, I’ll just die, but I don’t want any treatment.”
Sanjay Dutt was last seen in Shamshera and KGF 2. He is next said to be playing an antagonist in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Thalapathy 67. He will also be seen alongside Mithun Chakraborty, Jackie Shroff and Sunny Deol in Baap.
