Ace director SS Rajamouli is not only making waves in the Indian film industry but also representing the country globally with his incredible cinema. His latest release RRR earned two nominations at the 2023 Golden Globe Awards and now all hopes are set on the Oscars. While South films flourished this year, Rajamouli blamed actors, directors and other high-paid people for the failure of Hindi cinema in 2022.
“What happened was that once corporates started entering Hindi films and started paying high fees to actors, directors, companies, the hunger for success waned a bit,” Rajamouli said in Film Companion’s Filmmakers’ Adda , while He added that filmmakers should not be complacent if their films start doing good business.
This year, only a few Hindi movies like The Kashmir Files, Gangubai Kathiawadi, Bhol Bhulayaa 2, Brahmastra and Drishyam 2 performed well and managed to fetch some money at the box office. On the other hand, South movies like Pushpa, Kantara, RRR, Ponniyin Selvan, Vikram, KGF 2 and others have become blockbusters with worldwide viewership.
Rajamouli also reflects on the success of South films and how the South film industry is booming this year. The director said that the script is quite different in the south as compared to Hindi films. However, he also added that since south films have started doing well, filmmakers need to make sure they don’t get complacent because then the hunger for success diminishes.
After earning a Golden Globe nomination for Best Picture, Foreign Language Category, RRR now has a penultimate shot at the Oscars, where it could have a potential nod for Rajamouli in either the Best Director category or the Best Picture category. -good Section for foreign films.
