Rani Mukherjee is a cinematic icon of our time and one of the most successful heroines in the history of Indian cinema. She has chosen films and roles that have defined the evolution of women in society. For Rani, we are still in a developing society at work because she feels that there is a lot to be done to create a nation that celebrates the achievements of women. Rani says she wants to contribute by choosing roles that show women embracing patriarchy and winning against it. Rani revealed that her favorite film of all time is the cult classic Mother India

Rani says, “I love being part of stories where a woman is the agent of change, where a woman is strong enough to take on a system and change it for good and where a woman dares to take on the patriarchy, etc. called the glass ceiling and breaks it with her ambition and talent. These are the roles I naturally gravitate towards because I’ve always wanted to show women as fiercely independent builders of our nation. “Rani revealed that her favorite film of all time is the cult classic Mother India, a film that has been classified as one of the best representations of the spirit of femininity in world cinema. She says, “Since I was a child, my favorite film was and remains Mother India and that film showed the integrity of a woman despite her circumstances and the heavy pressure our society puts on women in general. I’ve always been inspired to play characters like that because women should be celebrated for all the quiet heroism they do in everyday life.”

Rani’s latest film, Mrs Chatterjee v Norway (MCVN) became a real hit in theaters and put an end to the narrative that audiences only want to watch movies with OTT content. Rani says she was always sure that audiences would want to see the story of a brave woman in theatres. She says, “Look at MCVN, this girl’s courage is beyond imagination because she took on an entire country for her children and won! This resonates strongly with people and the result is there for all to see! Socially relevant films like MCVN are made so that they can hopefully bring about a change in society. We know of so many cases of Indian parents in foreign countries who have been separated from their children. If our film can help these parents in some way to raise awareness of this global issue, it will all be worth it.”

Rani adds, “I want to tell stories of more such women on screen in my career. It feels good to tell the world to watch out for Indian women. They are made of a rare substance that must be recognized.
