Priyanka Chopra, speaking after being named to the BBC’s 100 Women list for 2022, recalled being embarrassed because of her skin colour. “I was called ‘black cat’, ‘dark’. I mean, what does “dark” actually mean in a country where we are literally all brown? That comes from our colonial past, of course, it’s not even 100 years since we shed the British Raj, so we’re still holding on to it I guess. But it’s up to our generation to cut those ties and change them so that the next generation doesn’t inherit the ability that is placed on fair skin,” she told the BBC.

“I thought I wasn’t pretty enough, I believed I would have to work a lot harder, even though I thought I probably had a little bit more talent than my fellow actors who were lighter in complexion. But I thought that was right because it was so normalized,” she said.

Meanwhile with Citadel Priyanka Chopra is already gearing up for the April 2023 premiere and has lined up her next project. The actress plans to produce an upcoming limited series through her Purple Pebble Pictures (PPP) banner. Amazon Studios is developing the project titled Assume Nothing, based on Tanya Selvaratnam’s memoir of the same name. Priyanka is also in talks to star in it.

Meanwhile, Priyanka has Chopra Citadel set to Prime Video with Richard Madden and Stanley Tucci. The series will premiere on April 28. She also has a movie In love again release in theaters May 12, starring Sam Heughan and Celine Dion.
