Prince Harry’s excessive gestures in interview show he is ‘craving for attention’ and ‘desperate’ to be heard, body language expert says

Prince Harry seems to be giving interviews non-stop lately. This is mainly to promote his memoir Spare as the Duke has been making promotional tours for the book since it came out in January.

Now a body language expert has noticed that in one interview, Harry uses gestures that show how “desperate” he is to tell his story to anyone who doesn’t know or hasn’t read about it yet.

Prince Harry interview with trauma expert

Prince Harry had a virtual chat with traumatologist Dr. Gabor Mate on March 4. Viewers were charged just over $33.00 to watch the 90-minute live broadcast, in which the Duke talked about some of the difficult experiences he had in his life.

The very fact that Harry sat down to talk to Mate caused a backlash. This is due to the doctor’s previous controversies, including when Canadian authorities threatened him with prison if he did not stop treating his patients with psychedelic drugs, and his comments on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Whoever arranged for this man to appear with Prince Harry did him a disservice,” Rabbi Abraham Cooper of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in New York told the Jewish Chronicle. “If Prince Harry knew this person’s record and still chose him for the interview, our center would criticize the prince for such an inappropriate choice.”

The body language expert says some gestures show the duke’s desperation

Body language expert Judy James analyzed Harry’s behavior during his conversation with Dr Mate and spoke to the Daily Mail about the prince’s exaggerated gestures showing he was “hungry for attention” and “desperate” to be “heard and understood’.

“Harry’s body language suggests that he is desperate to talk and communicate his personal emotions and traumas,” James said, noting, “His wide spread legs and the way he sits on the edge of the sofa seat, show confidence and comfort in these “revelations”.

“He wears a sad smile as he speaks, but it’s his dramatic gesticulation that creates the greatest impact. As Harry talks to the therapist there is clearly no need for him to be drawn, in fact it seems quite the opposite. His stories and his emotional reactions seem to spill or pour out of him, creating these overly congruent gestures where his hands draw or illustrate each idea in the air, as if he is desperate for his story to be heard, understood and even felt.”

James added: “Exaggerated gesturing like this can be a sign of a desire for attention, to be heard and understood. It can also offer a kind of ‘aerial mapping’ for the speaker to understand more about the things he is remembering and recounting.”

Harry is “delighted” with his book and the response it has received

Despite some criticism of his revealing book, Harry is said to be very pleased with the response Spare has received since its release.

A guest who attended Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi’s vow renewal ceremony with Harry and his wife Meghan Markle revealed to Page Six that the prince “doesn’t regret” anything he wrote.

“Harry said he was very happy with the success of the book and the response to it,” the fellow guest informed the publication. “He said he doesn’t regret any of the revelations and is relieved to have gotten his story out into the world.”
