Police in the Asini half of the Western region are investigating an alleged punishment meted out to a 15-year-old class topper that left her unable to sit due to severe bruising on her buttocks.
According to the girl’s father, Mr. Francis Bronya, his daughter, the class principal of the school was given the task of writing the names of the students who turned up late to school as well as those who were absent.
The father said that unknown to her, one of her colleagues also wrote her name on the list when she went out to attend to the call of nature.
Mr Bronya said that when her daughter sat down again, she asked to find out who had written her name, but could not tell who had, so she angrily tore up the name sheet.
Mr Bronya said her teacher was angered by the girl’s action and punished them by slapping the whole class and later invited the victim to the front row of the class and gave her further lashes, which it is alleged she passed out.
The father said the girl was later rushed to the hospital after which a formal complaint was lodged with the Half Assini police.
