LORDSTOWN — The village has received letters of interest from nine candidates seeking to fill the council seat vacated by the resignation of Donald Rader, effective at the end of the year.
The candidates are: Jessica Blank, Dan Kukovich, George Ebling, Dale Grimm, Mike Hodak, Michelle Knox, Mark McGrail, James Moseley and Daniel Watson.
Fiscal Officer William Blank said the council has scheduled interviews this week and has a special meeting Friday at 5 p.m. for year-end business, with the next regular meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Blank said the council is reviewing applications received last week and scheduling interviews.
After serving the village for 30 years, Rader has decided he will step down at the end of the year, citing personal reasons. Ryder said he was first appointed to the council in 1983 and then had a nine-year hiatus before returning to the council. He has chaired various committees and was most recently a member of the Utilities Committee.
Mayor Arno Hill said it will be hard to see Ryder leave, but noted he’s done a great job as a councilman. The council has 30 days to make a meeting about the seat after Reider’s last day on Dec. 31, or Hill will make the selection.
Attorney Paul Dutton said the person selected will serve the remaining three years of Rader’s term.
