Sometimes lies come back to bite you.
That’s exactly what happened to the California housewife Sherry Papiniwho was arrested and pleaded guilty earlier this year to faking her kidnapping in 2016. The case is the subject of Oxygen’s new special crime series Sherry Papini: Lies, lies and more lies, and E! News’ exclusive sneak peek dives into the case’s web of falsehoods.
The first clip features an interview between Papini and her husband Keith recorded after her return to a kidnapping, during which she lies that she was kidnapped by two Spanish women to be sold into human trafficking.
“Her conversation with Keith, I wouldn’t even describe it as a story,” says one of the special’s interviewees in the preview. “It was more of just throwing out little pieces. So, she would kind of give some information, but she would also say why she couldn’t remember.”
In addition to allegedly being chained and beaten by her captors, Papini was also branded with the word “exile” on her right shoulder. As another interviewee stated, “She said the brand is about appealing to the buyer.”
