New mom Sonam Kapoor on raising her child in India; “There will be a privacy issue if…”

Sonam Kapoor Ahuja and her businessman husband Anand Ahuja were blessed with a baby boy on August 20. She recently appeared on the cover of Vogue magazine and spoke candidly about the past nine months of her life and pondering the future. She said she would have privacy issues raising her child in India rather than London. However, she and her husband are yet to decide. Talking about how she, her sister Riya and brother Harsh Varrhan were kept away from the limelight by their parents Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor, Sonam said that while growing up, no one knew what they looked like. She said they were never actually published, which helped them lead a normal childhood. Studied at Arya Vidya Mandir where there were no star kids. She was even ashamed to leave her car. She was then sent to a junior college boarding school, which made her a bit more aware of the world and gave her perspective on things. “Honestly, I haven’t decided whether I will educate our child here or in London, but I definitely know that I feel more at home in India.” I am a real Bombay girl. There will be a privacy issue if I bring up my child here, but I see a lot of star kids leading completely normal lives, so we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” the Neerja actress told the magazine.

She also revealed whether her baby is pandemic or planned. “We wanted to wait two years after we got married to start trying. Then the pandemic happened. We were in Delhi at Anand’s (Ahuja) parents’ home at the start of the pandemic and we just thought the timing was right because we didn’t understand the seriousness of Covid. Soon after that we closed and things were getting tough so we decided to wait.”

She further added, “I remember doing the interview for Vogue India’s June 2021 issue in April, and as my birthday approached in June, I said to Anand, ‘This is it, I don’t think we can wait any longer. “I had already done all my check-ups with multiple doctors in Mumbai and London and everything seemed fine, so we decided to go for it.”
