In Gumraah, the Hindi remake of the Tamil language crime thriller Thadam, which also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, Mrunal Thakur will be featured in the role of a female police officer. The actor, who is still basking in the success of her film Sita Ramam, discusses how screenwriters are now beginning to develop characters with her in mind.
Mrunal Thakur reveals filmmakers are making films keeping her in mind; says, “I am really happy in the phase that I am in right now”
Mrunal’s character as Sita in Sita Ramam was highly praised. The film was a big success. When asked how have things changed for her after the film and why did she choose to be a part of Gumraah, Mrunal told Indian Express, “I am really happy in the phase that I am in right now. It’s taken me a couple of years to reach (where I am today). It is lovely when I meet filmmakers and they say ‘we are writing this specially for you, keeping you in our mind’; it is kind of a relief.”
Answering why she chose Gumraah, she replied, “It is because it is a genre that I wanted to explore, it is something that I have never done before. The fact that I felt I am good at emotional scenes, so just take that away from me and there’s no emotion, you have to just deliver your dialogues with minimum words but it should land right there, it should pierce the audience’s heart. With Gumraah, I have broken my inhibitions. I like murder mysteries. I have always been a fan of films which are in the thriller genre. I thought if I wanted to start exploring the genre, Gumraah should be the first one to begin with.”
Mrunal Thakur had recently posted a teary-eyed photo and spoke about how vulnerable and naive she was. Taking the meaning of her film Gumraah, she was asked whether she had an experience in Bollywood that misled her in anyway as an actor, and what she had learnt from it?
Mrunal replied, “I have learnt from my mistakes. There have been times where, as an actor, people have told me ‘He Mrunal, everybody knows you, but people need to see the glamour side of you, so you should be able to do that as well,’ and I am like really?! But then there have also been times where I have realised that what actually matters is what my role demands. Maybe an actor also ends up choosing roles because of the phase that they are in their lives. I have followed Ram Madhavani sir’s advice. He had said, ‘Mrunal, the biggest guardian angel and strength we have is our inner voice which we don’t listen to most of the times.’”
Mrunal also did a cameo in Akshay Kumar starrer Selfiee. She could be seen shaking a leg with Akshay in the song ‘Kudiye Ni Teri’. She will be next seen in Pippa opposite Ishan Khatter.
Gumraah stars Aditya Roy Kapur in dual roles. Produced by T-Series Films and Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios, Gumraah is scheduled to release in theatres on April 7. Mrunal also has Pooja Mera Naam with Huma Qureshi, Telugu film Nani and R Balki’s Lust Stories 2.
