Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry will showcase 60 curated outfits at the 2023 Jakarta Muslim Fashion Week (JMFW), which will be held from October 20–22, 2022.

“We welcome this opportunity to find talents in vocational high schools and vocational colleges who are studying fashion and have expertise. Within a very limited time, 60 looks or collections passed the JMFW 2023 curation,” director general of vocational education at the ministry, Kiki Yuliati, informed here on Wednesday.

The looks will be presented at a special parade entitled “Mahakarya Vokasi Adi Busana” or “Vocational Masterpiece of Haute Couture.” The 60 looks were created by vocational students.

The JMFW 2023 is a chance for vocational education units, both vocational schools and vocational colleges, to prove that the outfits designed by the vocational academic community can be equivalent to that of well-known designers in the country.

Participating in the JMFW is the vocational education community’s response to strengthen the fashion industry, which is growing rapidly, Yuliati said.

Vocational education has great potential to meet the needs of human resources in the fashion sector through study programs and skill workshops at vocational high schools (SMK), vocational colleges, as well as training and course institutions.

The 60 looks that passed the curation were created by students from six SMKs and four vocational colleges.

One of the curators of JMFW 2023, Yosepin Sri Ningsih, revealed that the curation assessed the mood board, design, and styling.

Ningsih said that the chance for vocational students to showcase their craft at the JMFW 2023 presents an opportunity and a challenge.

“With collaboration from upstream to downstream, as well as government support, I believe Indonesia can become a leader in this (fashion) industry,” she remarked.
