Mark Stoops, along with other SEC head coaches, sat down with ESPN’s Ryan McGee and Marty Smith for one-on-one interviews at SEC Football Media Days in July.

The SEC Network chose to air footage from those interviews on Tuesday, where Stoops appeared to take shots at South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer.

Stoops spoke with Marty and McGee about how he changed the culture at Kentucky and why that’s more important than changing the climate of a program.

“I think at the end of the day it’s about the respect around the league when you’re dealing with coaches and players,” Stoops said when asked about the rewards of his rebuild at Kentucky. “Win or lose, you go out, you know you’re going to be in for a physical game. You know we come to play, we come to compete and we have that mindset. This is not easy to change. I talked years ago about climate versus culture. It’s easy to change the climate. Just change your uniform, talk some games, dance around, put on some silly sunglasses and you can change the climate. But culture change is at the core. I’m sure we’ve changed our culture.

“That culture in our entire organization has completely turned upside down,” Mark Stoops said. “From looking like a dog to being watched as you come ready to play because we come. Our players feel it, our fans feel it and it’s a good feeling.”

Meanwhile, Beamer has done some things to change the climate at South Carolina, a program that has lost 7 of its last 8 games to the Wildcats.

Beamer starred in a Full House spoof earlier this year, but his appearance centered around a Soulja Boy song grabbed everyone’s attention at SEC Media Days in July.
