Maha Shivratri, one of the most auspicious Hindu festivals, falls on February 18 this year. While there are many beliefs about Maha Shivratri, of which the most popularly believed is the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. It is also believed that Maha Shivratri is celebrated to remember the day when Lord Shiva drank the poison churned out from the ocean, and thereby protecting the world from evil spirits, negativity, darkness, and dismay. From observing fasts to performing special pujas, Maha Shivrati is celebrated with a lot of pomp and grandeur in our country.
