Theater owners in Canada threatened not to show Ponniyin Selvan

Multiple theater owners Canada have been threatened via e-mail to refrain from a screening of Mani Ratnam directed by Ponniyin Selvan or their establishments may face acts of vandalism. For the uninitiated, the Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha Krishnan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi starrer is the latest in a long list of South films to be threatened by local fringe groups who have in the past cut two screens of films that were showing on Malayalam movie Kurup. It remains to be seen whether this time the aforementioned fringe groups manage to block the screenings again, or whether certain cinema owners will simply play it safe and not watch PS1 at all. Ponniyin Selvan’s overseas distributor, KM Talkies, confirmed the threat in a tweet that shared the warning, but not along with a caption that read: “I have updates from Hamilton, Kitchener and London. All cinema hall owners have been threatened with attacks if they release PS1 Tamil or any KW Talkies movie.
