Lake Charles’ Got Talent: Today’s event pairs local celebrities with Barbe Bluebelles

The original “Lake Charles’ Got Talent” event is back for the second year. The fun-filled community fundraiser puts ten teams on stage at Burton Coliseum to vy for votes on Saturday, August 13 beginning at 6 p.m.

Teams are made up of a Barbe Bluebell and a local celebrity, who may or may not have happy feet and the stage savvy that could win over a Simon Cowell sort. Of course, that adds to the fun.

Last year’s live auction items were phenomenal, according to Diedra Fitzgerald, Barbe Bluebelles director and coach. This year they’re even better.

“We have a Kobe Bryant autographed Adidas hat in a custom case and other sports memorabilia, trips to the Mexican Riviera and Costa Rica and the largest-ever Eddie Morman commissioned LSU painting.”

“I asked Eddie what was the largest LSU painting he’s ever painted so far,” said Ryan Chesson, one of the auction organizers. “When he told me, I asked him to do one for the Barbe Bluebelles fundraiser to top that. So, we’ll be auctioning that 48-foot by 60-foot Eddie Morman LSU oil painting Saturday night.”

Attendees will also raise funds as they enjoy jambalaya, beer, wine and mixed drinks.

Chesson hinted at an appearance by a well-known singing celebrity, but wouldn’t spill the beans.

Voting is by way of dollars, and at the end of the night, a People’s Choice Winner will be selected.

“Proceeds benefit Barbe Bluebells, the Barbe dance team. The event is put on by the non-profit Barbe Booster Club,” Fitzgerald explained.

She said it was last year’s Lake Charles’ Got Talent Event that made it possible for the Barbe Bluebelles to compete on equal footing with other dance teams on the national level.

“We were able to get professionals to consult with our dancers and our costumes were top of the line,” she said. “We want the title next year.”
