Kate Moss Will Forever Be Our Fashion Month Muse

Kate Moss is smashing fashion month. If the clip of her walking for Bottega Veneta’s spring/summer 2023 show in a plaid shirt and jeans (made of leather rather than denim, by the way) didn’t immediately make you want to dress like a high-fashion lumberjack, then you’re missing the point.

At Saint Laurent’s romantic Paris showcase, meanwhile, our beloved Kate proved that she’ll forever suit an LBD. Posing in front of the Eiffel Tower, the super wore a simple long-sleeve black dress and heels, nonchalantly trailing her faux-fur coat on the tiles behind her.

Back in the day, Kate dashed between shows in style.

The Fendi show also delivered a supermodel reunion, with Kate joining Christy Turlington, Amber Valletta and Shalom Harlow on the FROW. A beaming Moss – who’s been positively glowing since the launch of her beauty and wellness brand, Cosmoss – looked delighted to be back on the fashion circuit. It can be a slog for some, but not for Kate.

During her 1990s catwalk heyday, Kate dashed between shows with ease, wearing her failsafe model uniform of jeans, trenches, miniskirts, tights, tank tops and knee-high boots or trainers. Backstage, she was often pictured getting her hair and make-up done, looking fresher than you’d expect for someone working and travelling round the clock.

Kate brought the same readiness to shows she attended in the 2000s, when her runway schedule slowed down. Her attendance was well-documented: there are candid pictures of her on the FROW, and photos of her with late designers Karl Lagerfeld and Alexander McQueen, both of whom she walked for multiple times. She was there for the camaraderie, too, and regularly went to after parties.

She was close friends with the late Alexander McQueen, who famously realised her as a mesmerising hologram for autumn/winter 2006.

In recent years, her daughter Lila has been seen by her side at shows – on the FROW and the runway. They appeared as a mother-daughter duo at their friend Kim Jones’s debut couture collection for Fendi last January and they both walked for the designer’s Fendace “job swap” with Donatella Versace in September. It appears Kate’s unwavering poise has rubbed off on the 20-year-old: Lila has taken to modelling like a natural. With a mum like Kate, it makes sense.
