Marking Pride Month in 2023, Karan Johar, whose films also deal with the subject of homosexuality, said he has received thousands of emails and letters from gay boys and girls thanking him for making a film like Dostana. He stated that people assume that he is mocking and stereotyping homosexuals, but that is not the case. Rather, he approached the topic of homosexuality with humor, but with good reason. Karan Johar’s quote reads, “People say I’m mocking and stereotyping homosexuals. But I say, no, I brought homosexuality into the dinner table discussions. I received over a thousand emails and letters from gay guys and girls thanking me for creating Dostana because, they said, at least now people know what the concept is. I also did Bombay Talkies, which dealt with gay married men who are actually hiding and repressing themselves, due to social and parental pressure. Karan Johar’s upcoming projects

On the work front, Karan Johar is back in the director’s chair with Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The film stars Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. It also stars stalwarts like Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi and many more. The film is slated to release on July 28, 2023. Karan Johar is also producing the film.
