Karan Johar kicked Kareena Kapoor Khan out of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Kal Ho Naa Ho after his ugly spat

Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karan Johar have been good friends since they worked together in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. Karan has often said that when he saw a young Kareena at a party while casting for K3G, he was so struck by her beauty and attitude that he immediately thought, “That’s my Poo!” However, things got confused between them when Karan and Kareena had an ugly fallout while the director was casting for Shah Rukh Khan’s Kal Ho Naa Ho. In his biography ‘The Wrong Boy’, Karan revealed that he hasn’t spoken to Kareena for almost a year after they fell out. The incident dates back to when KJo was working on Kal Ho Naa Ho. He had approached Kareena for the role of Naina, who later entered Preity Zinta’s kitty. Kareena demanded the same money that Shah Rukh Khan was getting. “She (Kareena) asked for too much money and at that time we had some problem. Mujhse Dosti Karoge! was just released directed by Kunal Kohli. She said, “Aditya Chopra’s assistant Kunal Kohli made this flop so Karan Johar’s assistant Nikhil Advani can’t be trusted either”. On the weekend of the release of Mujhse Dosti Karoge, I offered her Kal Ho Naa Ho and she asked the same (amount of) money that Shahrukh Khan was getting. I said, ‘I’m sorry,'” Karan said. He continued: “I was very hurt. I told my father, “Leave the negotiation room” and called her. She didn’t take my call and I said “We won’t take her”. And I signed Preity Zinta instead. Karina and I didn’t talk for almost a year. One year we saw each other at parties. It was very idiotic. She was a child; she is a decade younger than me.

“We hadn’t spoken in nine months. She called and said, “I heard about Yash uncle.” She got very emotional on the phone and said, “I love you and I’m so sorry we didn’t get in touch with you. Do not worry”.

After that, Kareena and Karan went on to work together in films like Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, Bombay Talkies, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, We Are Family and Kurbaan.
