There is no denying that Bollywood has been facing a terrible time since the last year or so in the Ranking, is probably the worst ever. Not only are big films with big names flopping left, right and centre, but the more worrying aspect is that many of them didn’t even get picked up at the premiere, while most that did flopped after the opening weekend. On the other hand, almost every smaller or medium film that did well in the metro multiplexes in the past has come and gone without a trace. The post-pandemic effect, with the onslaught of OTT and a barrage of baseless negativity against Bollywood, has shaken the industry, but Karan Johar seems to think otherwise.

Karan Johar calls talk of Bollywood’s downfall ‘nonsense’

According to an entertainment news report in Hindustan Times, when Karan Johar was recently questioned about the chatter that Bollywood might be over, the maverick filmmaker termed such talk as “absolute nonsense”, insisting that good films will always work and citing examples of the huge results, made recently by Gangubai Kathiawadi and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 at the box office, while adding that his own production, JugJugg Jeeyo has also recently done quite decently. KJo further emphasized that films that are not good can never work and have never worked.

Karan Johar is hopeful about the immediate future of Bollywood

In the same conversation, Karan added that with many big-ticket films like Laal Singh Chaddha, Raksha Bandhan, Brahmastra, Rohit Shetty’s film (Cirkus) and finally, the year ending with a Salman Khan film, there is much to look forward to in the near future of Bollywood. He signed off by stating that the industry is still getting a lot of love, it just needs to create the right content.
