Kajol says she was very close to her father Shomu Mukherjee while she shared an unconventional relationship with mom Tanuja | Hindi Movie News

Kajol has become a household name in the film industry but the actress recently revealed that her father Shomu Mukherjee actually wanted to name her as Mercedes. However, her mother Tanuja intervened and didn’t let it happen.

In her interview with Mashable India, Kajol revealed the story behind being almost named after a luxury car brand and shared how her parents finalised her current name.

She said that her grandmother had a diary where she wrote all the names of her children and wrote down whatever she thought their children’s names would be. She revealed that her grandmother used to call her father as ‘Kajol da’. “So, that’s how I came to be named Kajol,” she shared.

Kajol’s father Shomu Mukherjee passed away in 2008 following a cardiac arrest. She revealed that though she shared an unconventional relationship with her mother Tanuja, she was very close to her father and they loved each other blindly. She added that neither her father could see any of her faults nor she could any of his faults.
When asked if she was her father’s pet or mother’s, Kajol said that her sister Tanishaa is her mother’s darling and she is more like her mother’s second-in-command. She added that ‘My mother and I don’t have a typical mother-daughter relationship.’
“As far as my dad was concerned, I thought the sun rose and set in my dad and my dad thought the same of me, so yeah definitely Papa’s pet,” she said.
