Israeli filmmaker Nadav Lapid, who was the special guest of the jury at IFFI, called The Kashmir Dossier a propaganda and vulgar film. This unpleasant comment by the director did not go down well with the makers and he faced a huge backlash for speaking his mind. And now Nadav has spoken his mind again and in his interaction with YNet he said that he spent his whole day in apprehension and is very much aware that the event is related to India. “It is not an easy position because you are a guest, I am the president of the jury here, they treat you very well. And then you come and attack the festival. There was concern, there was discomfort. I don’t know what the dimensions will be so I did it with some apprehension. Yes, I spent the day worrying. Let’s put it this way: I’m happy to be on my way to the airport now.”
The Israeli director added that someone has to speak: “In countries that are increasingly losing the ability to express their opinions or speak the truth, someone has to speak. When I watched this movie, I couldn’t help but imagine that it was an Israeli equivalent that doesn’t exist, but could exist. So, I felt I had to because I come from a place that is not reformed per se and is itself on the way to them.
