The Grand Tour host, 62, has been met with a barrage of backlash after writing about how he despises the Duchess of Sussex on a ‘cellular level’ and wishes to see people ‘throw lumps of excrement’ at her.
Writing for The Sun, he declared that he hates Meghan more than Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland, and the serial killer Rose West.
Clarkson also alleged that ‘everyone who’s my age thinks the same way’.
Unsurprisingly, his vile rant has been condemned by many famous faces, with Vorderman leading the way, and his own daughter, Emily, 28, taking a stand against him.
The former Countdown star, 61, responded to Clarkson’s tirade and made it clear that she does not agree.
Sharing the newspaper clipping of the column, she wrote on Twitter: ‘NO Jeremy Clarkson. Not on any level, in any circumstance, is it ok to write this stuff about any woman.
‘And absolutely NO to “everyone who’s my age thinks the same”. No no no.
‘We absolutely do NOT think the same. Listen to the noise Jeremy. The crowds are chanting “shame on YOU”.’
Comedian Bishop also took to the social media platform to slam Clarkson: ‘WTF is this ?? I don’t care who you are or who you work for you simply can not write things like this.
‘It is a blatant appeal to incite humiliation and violence on a woman. Some have excused it as dark humour. There is mo joke here @JeremyClarkson and no excuse.’ (sic)
Fellow comic Dom Joly said: ‘Literally gobsmacked at the utterly vile and disgusting comments written about Meghan Markle by Jeremy Clarkson in the Sun. What an utter piece of trash he is… what is it with these type of men that triggers them so?’
Radio presenter Edith Bowman added: ‘What a vile misogynist @JeremyClarkson is but also how is someone able to print such abusive comments in an actual newspaper..’
Author Philip Pullman also voiced his uproar over Clarkson’s column.
‘That Jeremy Clarkson can write things like that, and publish them unashamed, tells us all we need to know about the way Rupert Murdoch has poisoned and rotted our public life,’ he penned.
Sharing his frustration, former BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker said: ‘I get that it’s his job to provoke a response with his words but does Jeremy Clarkson, or indeed anyone, actually feel like this about Meghan Markle? There are so many red flags in here.’
Britain’s Got Talent daredevil Jonathan Goodwin slammed: ‘You know that thing when your drunken racist nasty uncle has to have the microphone taken off him at a wedding… well that’s @JeremyClarkson but instead of a microphone it’s his career.’
It’s been over 24 hours since Clarkson’s column was published, and he has yet to address the backlash or retract his comments.
