Jelly roll is at the top of his game when it comes to music. But as 2022 draws to a close, he – as with people everywhere – lays out his goals for 2023.

One of those goals is to finish the album he’s been working on and take the next step in his musical journey. On a more personal note, Jelly Roll, who is currently on hiatus from touring, says he plans to focus on his health and lose weight in the New Year.

And with that, he wants to lose him forever.

“I’m going to spend the first few months of the year just focusing on family and health,” said Jelly Roll, 38. Musical chaos. “I lost a little weight this year in 2022, but in 2023 I want to finally beat the demon. I don’t go on a big tour until the middle of the year. So I plan to take the first half of the year to get the album together and work.”

Jelly Roll has been vocal about her size to fans in previous interviews as well. In fact, the singer/songwriter (real name Jason Deford) was originally nicknamed Jelly Roll by his mother because of his “chubbiness.” He even joked in several interviews that he spent “his life trying to become the name [and] I think I did.”

And although he’s fully embraced his name and excess weight, he insists he might look different now that he’s on a new weight-loss regime.

“I got a guy, man,” he shared. “I am [about to] i started working with my boy who owns a gym in brentwood and we are [gonna] start chasing it at the top of the year.”

And it looks like Jelly Roll is already starting to fulfill its New Year’s resolution. His wife, Bunny XO, recently shared a video on TikTok of the two spending time in their garage with their dog and gym equipment.

“Workout partnaaa,” Bunnie XO captioned the clip.

And on the music side of things, Jelly Roll, who recently released a song called “Need A Favor” that will appear on his upcoming project, says, “Well, for me it’s about nailing the flag to show to the people that I am here to stay. I think we’ve done a really good job of getting people to see where we’re going, and now we need to get them to look at where we’re at and go with us where we’re going. This is the goal.”

Indeed, Jelly Roll is enjoying an important year. In 2022, he earned his first #1 at rock radio with “Dead Man Walking.” His next song ‘Son Of A Sinner’ meanwhile reached the Top 5 on billboardCountry Airplay and Hot Country Songs charts, respectively.

Among other accomplishments, Jelly Roll also walked his first red carpet at the CMA Awards and finished the year by performing his first hometown headlining show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.

Proceeds from the sold-out Music City show go to programs benefiting underserved youth in partnership with Impact Youth Outreach. Money from the show will also be used to build a state-of-the-art recording studio and music programs at the Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center, where the Antioch native served time as a teenager.

“It’s just unreal … I was going through some stuff and recaps and just little things like Billboard said I was the third biggest new face in the country [music]. Another major website said I had the 30th biggest song of the year. It’s just all these things are just like, I can’t believe it. And knowing that we’re number two at country radio right now, going into the holidays is even crazier,” says Jelly Roll, reflecting on her success in 2022. “You know, what a great time to be in the top five at country the radio. You know what I mean? It’s the time of year when everyone listens to the radio. I can’t even wrap my arms around it.
