Israel may be a small country, but with the most startups per capita, even when they leave the nest, they’re still making waves. Indeed, Israeli startups, technology and innovation have a lasting impact on the entire world. Although the roots of many of the companies below are Israeli, as they branch out into the world, they bring their culture with them and connect with other aspects of the diaspora. Israeli startups are making waves around the world.
A clear example of where to find these companies is through Guy Franklin’s Mapping Israel in New York. It is an interactive platform that maps Israeli startups operating in New York. Israeli Mapped in NY visually demonstrates how Israeli innovation and creativity is spreading to other parts of the world. In addition, it promotes the Israeli startup community to investors and other important potential stakeholders within the startup ecosystem. This map is helping to create a base for Israeli innovation in New York as well, especially as the number of Israeli startups moving to New York each year continues to grow. Importantly, even though Israel is a small country in proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of startups in the world. New York, on the other hand, is a global consumer market that offers greater access to capital and wealth from advisors. Franklin expanded his project to map Boston as well!
Israeli startups have spread their wings all over the world. In New York, an Israeli entrepreneur named Lior Vaknin founded Israeli Startups NYC. The company focuses on building stronger connections between technology companies and communities in Israel and New York. The connection between Israeli and New York startups is not as strong as the connection between Israel and Silicon Valley, but Israeli Startups NYC aims to create and strengthen connections between the two. The company serves as an introduction to Israeli startup culture and Israeli culture in general, creating a dialogue between Americans and Israelis in a process that will hopefully build positive relationships. New York is also becoming home to other Israeli startups. The number of Israeli startups “based in New York has almost doubled in the past year,” says NYIBA President Aaron Kopolwitz. More recently, companies such as Riskified, Sisense, Vast Data and Via have established themselves in New York, as have other Israeli startups such as Compass, Lemonade, Payoneer, Taboola and The We Company (See our article on The Rise of Co-working). These companies are paving the way for other Israeli startups to join the conversation as well. New York’s startup culture is a growing scene that can be attributed in part to Israeli startups.
Another Israeli startup making a global impact is Archimedicx. Archimedicx is a search engine that allows users to search and compare medical procedures for transparency in price, quality and availability. The user can specify what language they speak, the time to receive the operation, their financial limitations and the costs they can pay, and the place where the operation will take place. Archimedicx focuses on making surgery affordable and accessible to those who need care but would have difficulty getting it otherwise. It is also used by medical tourists, which is a fast-growing industry serving more than 50 million people a year. Importantly, the Website and Service are free for patients to use. The company focuses on connecting people with hospitals and providing them with the care they need, when they need it, by acting as an effective intermediary between the patient and the hospital.
It was a global effort, inside and outside the companies, to propel startups to their strong position in the global marketplace today. Israeli startups are leading the conversation on growth, making connections, positively impacting the world, and have spearheaded the journey into new territories such as co-working, pioneering medical advances and more!
After all, Israeli startups are operating efficiently and effectively in Israel and growing at an impressive rate in the global community as well. The contribution to restoring a sense of normalcy in the world is impressive and companies strive to make the world a better place. The energy and momentum is spreading to a global audience, and we’re all watching Israeli startups rise into the spotlight right before our eyes, each ready to give something unique to the world.
