INTERVIEW: Liam Kelly reflects on Reading win and aim for top six – News

Sky Blues captain Liam Kelly hailed the win over Reading as a “fantastic performance” from him and his team-mates.

The win moves the Sky Blues up to 5th in the Championship as things stand as they look to cement their place in the play-off places.

Kelly was brought back into the squad for his first league start of the season and he reflected on the win as well as reiterating the need to take each game at a time.

Reflecting on the result…

“It’s a fantastic result and a really good performance.

“The results are good for us today as well and it makes it really interesting and exciting for everyone at Coventry to sit in because it’s been a long time since we’ve been in this position and we’ve just got to enjoy it and give it our all.” I have.”

It doesn’t win with more…

“We had some fantastic chances in the first half and obviously Vic hit the post and then in the second half we had more.

“Gus went one-on-one and on another day it could have been a 4-1 win but at this stage of the season it’s just about a win and three points to put us in a fantastic position.”

Godden starts the scoring…

“Matty’s finishing is incredible and I think if the ball is going to fall to someone in the box you want to play it to him because he always finds the corner.

“He’s been doing that his whole career and he’s been fantastic for us because he’s been able to get us off to a good start.”

Allow after restart…

“It was disappointing because I don’t think they created much.

“Disappointed with ourselves to turn us over but he put it right in the corner but he said we responded really well by getting back in front straight away.”

Pushing for the top six…

“It’s about trying to get into the play-offs and trying to get promoted.

“I don’t think you can think about it too much, you just have to take it game by game and enjoy it, throw absolutely everything at it and treat every game like a cup final.

“These opportunities don’t come around often, so we have to enjoy them.”

He starts his first league…

“I’m glad to be playing football again. It’s hard when you’re not playing, so I’m happy to be back on the pitch and winning games.

“I’m proud that I performed well and tried to get three points.

“The boys have done really well and on a personal front, all you can do is train well and when you get a chance try to play well and that’s what I’ve been trying to do.”

Hearing the Doyle/Kelly song…

“It’s been a while since I’ve heard it, but I heard it sung today with the huge crowd we had.

“It was nice to hear it and that’s something you miss, so I was pleased to be there and hear it and it meant a lot.”
